Immediately upon publication in 1998, the Encyclopedia of Country Music became a much-loved reference source, prized for the wealth of information it contained on that most American of musical genres. Countless fans have used it as the source for answers to questions about everything from country's first commercially successful recording, to the genre's pioneering music videos, to what conjunto music is. This thoroughly revised new edition includes more than 1,200 A-Z entries covering nine decades of history and artistry, from the Carter Family recordings of the 1920s to the reign of Taylor Swift in the first decade of the twenty-first century. Compiled by a team of experts at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the encyclopedia has been brought completely up-to-date, with new entries on the artists who have profoundly influenced country music in recent years, such as the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban. The new edition also explores the latest and most critical trends within the industry, shedding light on such topics as the digital revolution, the shifting politics of country music, and the impact of American Idol (reflected in the stardom of Carrie Underwood). Other essays cover the literature of country music, the importance of Nashville as a music center, and the colorful outfits that have long been a staple of the genre. The volume features hundreds of images, including a photo essay of album covers; a foreword by country music superstar Vince Gill (the winner of twenty Grammy Awards); and twelve fascinating appendices, ranging from lists of awards to the best-selling country albums of all time. DeLaine is in 7th grade at Samson High. She is 12 and on the verge of turning 13; a milestone. Learning about the changes she's feeling in her body and mind, DeLaine realizes that physical feelings don't always mean true love, as she thought when she was younger. Nevertheless, she develops feelings for Kevin Strong, her psychopathic stepbrother's best friend and "King" of 8th grade. If he wasn't untouchable for one reason - Geoffrey's jealousy - then he is untouchable for his difference in age and status. Kevin doesn't share her thoughts about their relationship being taboo. DeLaine is obliged to push Kevin away to minimize the abuse she will endure if her stepbrother ever knows her true feelings for his best friend. She has a budding friendship with one of the popular girls, Bailey Rains, and is surprised when Bailey shows nothing but warmth and kindness to a "complete zero" like her. DeLaine's self-esteem gradually begins to develop as she spends more time with Bailey. Just when her life seems to be on an even keel, her stepmother comes home from the mental hospital. DeLaine's new defiance allows her a different way to deal with the abuse she constantly receives from her step-monsters as she navigates adolescence. The first book in the series is Dust in the Wind and occurs just after the tornado of Terrible Tuesday, April 10th, 1979 in Wichita Falls, TX. The journey of DeLaine Reynolds continues as she navigates the first half of 7th grade at Samson High.

There are many other poker games. I could write another volume on the wild-card games alone. Basically, the play is similar to the popular games so far discussed. Any good player will soon figure a new game to his advantage. Never get into a game that is new to you and play for high stakes. You could lose a fortune until you have the game analyzed. My greatest single contribution to your success as a poker player is the advice and knowledge about chicanery in a large majority of poker games. This was not written in this way to make a story. It is a fact. After many and varied associations with hustlers, both profitable and otherwise, I have formed an unshakable opinion--99 percent are the dregs of humanity. They would steal or cheat their own mothers. Honor and principle are words that have no meaning to them. Of all associations, only two ever proved trustworthy. These two are my friends to this day. And I am a friend of theirs. Anything I have, they can have. They are the same with me. The others, they would borrow money, never intending to pay back. They may hide the money that was to be split then claim we never won that amount. Many a good-paying partnership was broken off by me for these reasons. The greedy hustlers lost more by being left out of the action than was ever gained by chiseling me. If ever a hustling operation is exposed, you may bet your family jewels some jealous hustler has a finger of suspicion on it. Consequently, by my exposing the many and varied means of bilking the public, I do not believe I am doing harm to any deserving segment of society. This is my way of relieving my conscience for taking advantage of the very few of you who deserve sympathy. Perhaps, in some measure, I can return your losses by passing on the kind of information that will save or make money for you in the future. After all, if you are equally informed, who has the advantage?

This series of biographical profiles shines a spotlight on that special place “Where the West meets the Guitar.” From Gene Autry and Roy Rogers to contemporary artists like Michael Murphy, Red Steagall, Don Edwards and Riders in the Sky, many entertainers have performed music of the West, a genre separate from mainstream country music and yet an important part of the country music heritage. Once called “Country and Western,” it is now described as “Country or Western.” Though much has been written about “Country,” very little has been written about “Western”—until now. Featured are a number of photos of the top stars in Western music, past and present. Also included is an extensive bibliography of works related to the Western music field.
